Assembly rings are the modern method of creating a mechanical shrink fit. They consist of one or two thrust rings with tapered bores and a corresponding tapered inner ring.

By tightening the set screws, the thrust rings are brought together, compressing the inner ring and exerting pressure on the outer. Being positioned around the hub, there is only one interface transmitting the loads, which gives the hoop method distinct advantages, such as the ability to achieve highly concentric and well-balanced connections, suitable for high-speed applications.

Traditional shrink discs require complicated calculations, tight machining tolerances and fine surface finishes, as well as considerable effort during assembly and disassembly. The shrink disc has none of these disadvantages.
